With reference to paragraph 322 King's Regulations I have thehanor to inform you that application has been made by the Volonial Government for the services of No.927 Serjeant R. It appears probable that Tar and as he has now 21 years and 8 months service to count for pension, he could no doubt take his discharge at the end of the war, and, if he has given satisfaction, get a permanent appointment of a similar kind.

Serjeant Williams is acting as a Mechanist Electrician and can be temporarily spared, but it will be necessary to replace him before any more searchlights can be brought into use, and sooner if practicable.

During his employment under the Colonial Government his serv- ices as a Defence Light soldier will not be lost, as he will join the Engineer company of the Hong Kong Defence Corps.

14. Under the circumstances I have provisionally sanctioned the proposal pending the Army Council's approval. Employment commences from 16th December 1917, from which date inclusive Serjeant Williams #111 cease to draw pay and allowances from Army Funds.

Paragraph 322 Kings Regulations has been complied with.
